Bogotá.-The National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco), says that the Government’s threats about sanctions to companies with anti-union collective bargaining agreements are an undue pressure for Congress to approve the Labor Reform.
«It is incomprehensible how an official of the Executive announces in advance penalties that are clearly disproportionate to private sector companies. It cannot be normalized that the ways to approve an inconvenient labor reform are the de facto ways with unscrupulous threats», affirmed the spokesman of the businessmen.
He also added that it does not help the democratic principle of separation of powers, nor the due process, nor the presumption of innocence, that multimillionaire sanctions are announced as retaliation, if a bill that would generate high costs and destroy numerous jobs is not approved.
According to Fenalco, it is worrying that this type of measures are being communicated, when Congress is analyzing the difficulties that this reform would add to companies in difficult economic times and when the Constitutional Court is reviewing the adjustment to the Constitution of the figure of collective bargaining agreements, which constitutes undue pressure.
«It is regrettable that once again the Government through the Deputy Minister again shows signs of declaring businessmen as enemies and not as allies, when 80% of the country’s tax revenue in 2023 was thanks to private business activity», concluded Cabal Sanclemente.
