Ecopetrol will have to become Colombia’s leading energy company in the medium term, said Bonilla

Bogotá. –After the end of Ecopetrol’s Extraordinary Assembly, the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Ricardo Bonilla, spoke about the future of the oil company.

«What we have is that in the medium term the expectation is that Ecopetrol will have to become the first energy company in Colombia, when I speak of energy I am talking about all the elements of energy. That is, energy is oil, gas, electric energy, transmission, generation, renewable energies, solar, wind and hydrogen», said the minister.

According to Bonilla «the future of the world is hydrogen. Ecopetrol is in the process of exploring the world of hydrogen and that is where we have to work.

He also explained that «Ecopetrol already has interventions in different areas and what we have to generate conditions so that it does not appear as if there is some insufficiency or that the regulation does not allow it to act in some areas. Particularly Ecopetrol is already in energy transmission, Ecopetrol is entering into solar energy plants and is developing all the hydrogen pilot processes, Colombian legislation must be proactive with these issues».
