By Juan Munévar, special envoy Primera Página – Agencia de Noticias – Cartagena de Indias.- The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro Urrego, said that the gas already imported into the country is four times more expensive, and that he is willing to invest to activate the pipeline owned by Pdvsa to import gas from Venezuela. It is known that the pipeline, owned by Pdvsa, is dismantled for one kilometer in Colombian territory, and in fact, it has been suspended for nine years. That is why the infrastructure is key to be able to import gas, in addition to overcoming the regulatory, legal and sanctioning problems that Pdvsa has with the United States. However, President Petro said: «I am not a fool, I try to defend the people and their pockets (…). But, and if that pipe is useful, then to go through the whole market, because it is there, where gasoline could be produced, that is, it is not simply useful to export, it is useful to export coal, and all the technological transformation around gas, we can develop it, maybe more than what exists (…)». «I propose a round table to talk about how to transform thermoelectric plants into clean energy; how to transform the natural gas industry into the green hydrogen industry. The government is willing to talk,» added Gustavo Petro. He questioned that the current imported gas is the cause of the high energy rates, and that the gas they want to bring from Venezuela is four times cheaper. « Who sets that price? You spoke to me about sovereignty, is it true? Why is this price set by a gas importer? Why is it hidden from Colombia that we have been importing gas for years? No, it is that sovereignty is lost if this gas comes from Venezuela,» said President Gustavo Petro. «Then, we have to maintain this import regime with gas that is four times more expensive than lowering it and making it four times cheaper with gas that would be owned by Ecopetrol», he pointed out.
