Bogotá.- The Brazilian meat multinational Minerva Foods will reactivate its two meat processing plants in order to start exporting beef to China.
The company’s two plants are located in Ciénaga de Oro, in the department of Córdoba, and Bucaramanga (Santander).
The multinational suspended its activities in Colombia in 2023, due to the fall of the dollar together with the drop in international beef prices and lower beef consumption in the country.
However, once China granted eligibility for the sector to begin exporting, the company evaluated its decision and now sees potential to grow in the international market.
Minerva Foods is present in other countries in the region, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.
According to estimates by the Minister of Agriculture, Jhénifer Mojica, the first exports of Colombian beef to China will take place in the first quarter of 2024.
The animal health certificate is the document that covers shipments of this product for export. The certificate model is being worked on jointly by ICA and Invima to present the proposal to the General Administration of Customs of China.
