Bogotá. – The Colombian Association of Large Industrial and Commercial Energy Consumers (Asoenergía), insisted today on the need for regulatory intervention to be structured and consistent for demand.

In the midst of a regulatory proposal for intervention in the Wholesale Energy Market that is partial and of short application in time, a costly reform is also being included for users in the Retail Market, representing higher costs in the restrictions for users that are served by traders with a lower risk strategy.

According to the association «the structural reform of the Wholesale Energy Market must be structured and permanent until the principles of competition that are needed for its efficient operation are recovered; and it should not be done at the cost of a higher tariff in the Unit Cost of electricity service provision as proposed».

Sandra Fonseca, Executive Director of Asoenergía, warned about the impact for demand, since the vast majority of Colombians could be paying around 2.4 billion pesos more in their energy bills between January and April 2024 in case the Draft Resolution of the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission (Creg) 701 028 of 2023, published for comments by this Commission at the end of December, materializes.
